Airborne School Parachute Systems

The European Paratroopers Airborne School exclusively use his own insured and certified parachute systems (main and reserve):

 

MC1-1C/D (troop back main parachute).

T-10D/E (troop back main parachute).

MC1-1C/D

The MC-1 series maneuverable parachute assembly is designed to be used for a premeditated jump when a precision soft landing in a small target area is necessary.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONS

The basic canopy is the same as the MC1-1B except 1993, 1995, and 1996 drawing changes as noted are incorporated: The cloth was changed to 0.5-5.0 CFM porosity, specification PIA-C-44378, Type I The old eleven (11) orifice design was revised to seventeen (17) orifices in the same 11 of the 30 gores; three (3) openings on Gore Nos. 4 and 26; Orifices are tape reinforced horizontally on Gore Nos. 4 and 26 between upper edge at large orifice and lower edge of new lower small opening; Shorter (22’) suspension lines are arranged eight (8) lines each instead of seven (7) on the back risers; Shorter (25’) control lines are used; The 11-3/4” length pocket bands are used instead of the old 8-3/4” length; All material colors are new U.S. Army color Foliage Green #504; Reinforcement zigzag stitching was added for main seams Nos. 6 through 25 (orifice area only) – 30” length about suspension lines; Radial tape cut length is now cut 2-1/4” shorter (17’) to insure cloth fullness in main seam length. A Reinforcement tape was added under each bridle line on inside of canopy – main seam #5 and #6; #25 and #26. Zigzagged stitched reinforcement on the noted main seams was to provide greater tear resistance of the canopy. These changes create a fast opening canopy with a gliding type descent rate of approximately 4 to 5 feet per second, with more steerability (forward drive) possible.

 

T-10D/E

The T-10 series non-maneuverable parachute assembly is standardized as a troop personnel parachute to provide the airborne Soldier with a tactical parachute system.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONS

In 1976, a major change was made to the basic canopy with the addition of: Anti-inversion skirt netting (old Part Number 11-1-1501 – T-10B). This improved the reliability of an already very dependable parachute that many canopies already in service were retrofitted with the netting. In 1986, the T-10B Canopy was further improved to new version T-10C, Part Number 11-1-1501-2. The Canopy was improved by: Increasing the Pocket Band free length from 4” to 7-1/2” and decreasing the Pocket depth from 5” to 4-1/4”. This change reduced the opening shock by providing a slightly larger diameter at the skirt hem; providing a lower rate of descent and a “softer” landing. All T-10B Canopies in service have now been upgraded to the new Pocket Band length. In 2006, all T-10C assemblies material color was changed to the new U.S. Army color Foliage Green #504. In addition, the Pack Assembly P/N 62J4342 was revised by adding one (1) each Static Line Stow Bar to each side of pre- sent webbing loops used for stowing the Static Line. These new Stow Bars are used for additional stows at the folded ends of 15’-5” yellow Static Line. A static line is attached through the break cord strap on inside of the bag under strap pocket and around deployment bag main strap or attached directly around the deployment bag main strap if the break strap is eliminated. In 2000, the T-10D was introduced. The T-10D assembly incorporates a detachable deployment bag. The new bag includes: 15’ Universal Static Line, P/N 11-1-6993-1; 5’ Extension Static Line, P/N 11-1-6993-2; and Snap, P/N 11-1-6991. The universal static 15’ or 20’ static allows a soldier to be dropped from several different aircrafts. The chest, back, and leg straps permit size adjustments. Each riser is 30 inches in length with the male fitting of the canopy release permanently attached.

 

T-10R MIRPS (SLCP)

The T-10R series chest reserve parachute assembly is an emergency parachute designed to be used in the event of a malfunction of the primary back type parachute.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONS

It has a total of 24 gores and there are 4 panels per gore. The suspension lines are made from Type III, 550# nylon cord. The pilot chute is an umbrella type, which is 40” inches in diameter. The pack is made from nylon duck and contains a pack frame for rigidity. It is fitted with a “two-pin ripcord”, for the spring activated ripcord pocket. The latest U.S. Military style of “Velcro” fasteners are used on the Ripcord Cover panel and Grommet Panel. The 24 ft. Reserve Assembly is intended for use with the 35 ft., T-10B, T-10C or MC1-1B or MC1-1C main assembly. It is not to be used as a primary canopy. In the event that it is needed, it is manually activated through the use of the ripcord. The basic assembly, when packed for service, weighs approximately 12-lbs (5kg). The packed assembly requires less than 27-lbs(5.2kg) manual pull on the ripcord handle to activate the spring loaded pilot chute, thereby deploying the reserve canopy instantaneously. All material colors are the new U.S. Army Foliage Green #504.
