QUICK EVENT OVERVIEW

The SPARTAN MARCH is a 25 km military ruck march, participants have six hours to complete the 25 km (15.5 mile) route carrying a 10kg or 20kg pack. The march took place in South Italy, former Magna Graecia or Greater Greece amid the ancient ruins of Poseidonia. An amazing route surrounded by stately Doric temples, Ancient Greek archaeological marvels, thick pine-woods, Mediterranean scrub and sandy beaches! A beautiful tour through  historical places and allows you to admire the beauty of Magna Graecia. The purpose of the march is commemorate and honor the sacrifice of King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans, demonstrate the physical preparedness of our members, and promote the airborne brotherhood and the comradeship among soldiers of different nations. The Spartan March has been a tradition with the European Paratroopers since 2020 when the first ever Spartan March took place on 20th of September at Thermopylae in Greece to commemorate King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans on the Thermopylae Battle 2500th Anniversary. An unforgettable day of commemoration culminated in the 25km military ruck march on the historical battle place where twenty-five centuries ago the Spartans led by their King fallen fighting to the death in the epic struggle to secure the existence of the western mankind and a future for the European peoples.

EVENT SCHEDULE

AWARDS

The Spartan Order Medal will be awarded to all participants who will successfully complete the Spartan March. Special Category (25km march/weight 20kg) participants will get the Spartan Order Medal with Gold Sward Ribbon Clasp. Every year a participant successfully completes the march is marked by a Gold Number to be attached to the ribbon of the last medal awarded (after participating for the first time, the participant receives a medal. From the second time, they receive a medal with a gold number clasp attached to the grbbon).

Furthmore a completely unique special awards will be presented such as, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies to honour Special Category (25km march/weight 20kg) fastest 3 paticipants. Those trophies are a great prize to commemorate you success in spirit with the 300 Spartan Heroes. Our Spartan March unique sculpture trophies feature King Leonidas helmet. The helmets for different places come in different colors, Gold, Silver and Bronze, with unique engraved plaques in the same colors.

REGULATIONS

Military (active, reserve, retired) persons without age limit can participate. Participation can be done individually or in group, regardless the category enrolled. Every participant participates at the event at his own risk! Participants start and sign off at Camp Sparta. Each participant must have his ticket (Registration Card for Spartan March) carrier stamped 3 times in a correct manner by a SPARTAN MARCH official in order for the march completion to be considered valid. In order to be stamped the ticket must be presented to a SPARTAN MARCH official, at starting point, at check point and at ending point. Participant must finish the 25 km march within the time limit of 6 (six) hours, carrying a military backpack weighing 10kg (Regular Category) or 20kg (Special Category). Weight will be checked before and after the march. (If the participant finishes with less carry weight than the required for each category, NO medal is awarded).
Please note that gear, beverages and food are not included. It is recommended to bring at least 3 liters of water and energy food. Participants must wear EPA service uniform or their national military combat uniform (if authorized). Boots are mandatory. The use of tracking sticks is not allowed. Any civilian clothing and equipment is not allowed.

REGISTRATION

Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The entry fee for the march includes a special awards set features SPARTAN MARCH medal and diploma, trophies to the first three finishers, water and food station on the route, two (2) days bunkhouse accommodation, and free entry at Paestum archeological museum and archeological site.

CATEGORIES

Participants can choose between two (2) categories, Regular and Special. Participants must finish the 25 km march within the time limit of 6 (six) hours, carrying a military backpack weighing 10kg (Regular Category) or 20kg (Special Category).

DIRECTIONS

“Camp Sparta” Paestum, Salerno/Italy. Directions will be provided to participants as we get the registration.

TRANSPORTS

The nearests international airport are Salerno-Pontecagnano International Airport (QSR) at circa 25 minutes car drive to Camp Spartan in Paestum and Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP) at circa 1 hours 20 minutes car drive to Camp Spartan in Paestum. If you choose to fly into Salerno or Naples airports you can reach the event place by train and bus (we will provide you directions), anyway we strongly recommend that you rent a car.

ACCOMMODATION

Two (2) days free bunkhouse accommodation will be provided to the participant at “Camp Sparta” (check inn November 29th chech out December 1st). Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Directions will be provided to participants as we get registration email.

FOOD & DRINKS

Meals are available locally in Paestum in restaurants and bars.

RAVITAILLEMENT

Stand for water and food (fruit, hot drinks, etc.) supply is installed along the route. We anyway ask the participants to bring their own beverages and food. It is recommended to bring at least 3 liters of water and energy food.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Please take care of the environment and only dispose your garbage in trash bin lined with a plastic bag, if there are no trash bin in the route, please put your garbage in your packpack or in your pocket.

FREE TIME

Opportunities for sightseeing will be provided to the participants.
