Kiev, Ukraine - European Paratroopers Operational Detachment volunteers provided tactical medicine training and distributied NATO Standard Improved First Aid Kits (IFAKs) and other tactical medical equipment to Ukraine's military personnel. From 11 to 16 October the EPA Operational Detachment was on theater of operations were over 40 paratroopers of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces (Десантно-штурмові війська України - ДШВ), the elite of Ukraine's armed forces where trained in tactical medicine and over 1500 pieces of tactical medical equipment (NATO Standard Improved First Aid Kits (IFAKs), Tactical Tourniquets, QuikClot Combat Gauze and Celox Rapid haemostatic gauzes, SAM Splints, Emergency Bandages, Tactical EDC Medical Scissors, Gauze Bandages, Hemostatic Dressings, Chest Seals, Decompression Needles, Nasopharyngeal Airway Tubes, Medical Tapes, Surgical Gloves) and humanitarian supplies was delivered to the 199th Airborne Forces Training Center in Žytomyr and to the volunteers serving in the war-torn eastern Ukraine. Before the end of the mission at the National Military History Museum of Ukraine in Kiev on October 14th, the Day of Defender of Ukraine, Day of the Ukrainian Cossacks and the anniversary of Ukrainian Insurgent Army, there was held a ceremony of awarding the European Paratroopers Operational Detachment and the Ukrainian Veterans of the War in Donbass. The Ukrainians honored the Operational Detachment conferring the war veteran cross to Colonel Giulio Festa and the medal of the patriot of independent Ukraine to Captain Stamatis Athanasios, Captain Tony Micaletto and Master Sergeant Jan Ehrhardt. “I am honored to be here in Kiev on this important day to show that in times of crisis, friends stick together. This mission is a support from the European Paratroopers to our Ukrainian brothers” said Col. Giulio Festa, the Operational Detachment commander. “In this days the European Paratroopers Association did an amazing work in favor of the airborne troops. I'm honored to recognize Colonel Giulio Festa and his men for providing such a great training. This training and humanitarian mission demonstrated a strong and enthusiastic support to the Ukrainian paratroopers,” said Colonel Oleg Chuiko, Ukrainian Air Assault Forces veteran. During the ceremony Colonel Oleg Chuiko, Colonel Alexander Denisov, Lieutenant Colonel Mykhailo Khrapiychuk and Major Serhiy Arkhangelsky was awarded the EPA Merit Cross for service in combat zone during the ATO and other twenty war veterans was awarded the EPA Covid-19 Service Medal for service during the health crisis in the war-torn eastern Ukraine.
