QUICK EVENT OVERVIEW

The SPARTAN MARCH is a military ruck march, participants have six hours to complete the 25 km (Regular) or 35 km (Special) route carrying a 10kg. This year logistical reasons make impossibile to hold the Spartan March as originally planned traditional in-person event. The march will be converted into a virtual one to avoid the complete cancellation or postponement. This means participants will complete the march distance individually or in group, at their own pace and location, between September 20th - October 20th, rather than gathering at Paestum, Italy on September 20th.

SPARTAN MARCH HISTORY

The Spartan March has been a tradition with the European Paratroopers since 2020 when the first ever Spartan March took place on 20th of September at Thermopylae in Greece to commemorate King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans on the Thermopylae Battle 2500th Anniversary. An unforgettable day of commemoration culminated in the military ruck march on the historical battle place where twenty-five centuries ago the Spartans led by their King fallen fighting to the death in the epic struggle to secure the existence of the western mankind and a future for the European peoples.
The purpose of the march is commemorate and honor the sacrifice of King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans, demonstrate the physical preparedness of our members, and promote the airborne brotherhood and the comradeship among soldiers of different nations.

REGULATIONS & RULES

Military (active, reserve, retired) persons without ag limit may organize their Spartan March-Virtual between September 20th - October 20th. Every participant participates at the march at his own risk! Participant must finish the 25 km (Regular) march or 35 km (Special) march the within the time limit of 6 hours, carrying a military backpack weighing 10 kg (please note that gear, beverages and food are not included). It is recommended to bring at least 3 liters of water and energy food. EPA members should wear the EPA service uniform or their national military combat uniform, other participants should wear their national military combat uniform or sterile combat uniform. Boots are mandatory. The use of tracking sticks is not allowed. Any civilian clothing and equipment is not allowed. Participation can be done individually or in group.

• Make your Adidas Runtastic Running App account and then:

1) Add the European Paratroopers account (https://www.runtastic.com/user/YTZLA5E35RF6XWDM) as a friend in the application runtastic and configure your privacy settings to let friends see activities, photos and maps;
2) Record the 25 km (Regular) march or 35 km (Special) march as activity with the application;
3) Take a full body picture wearing the equipment at the beginning, middle, end of march with the application;
4) Start the march and complete it within 6 hours time limit;
5) Share with us the activity details with the map. You can do it when inside the activity by tapping the share button or you can do it by email at [email protected] (by email share also the date of the activity, the photos and your runtastic account name or link).

REGISTRATION

The registration fee of €165 includes a special awards set features a medal, a diploma, a t-shirt, a patch and stickers, as well as the package international express courier (DHL/FedEx/UPS) shipping. At the moment of registration you will be required to provide your personal data (Rank, Name, Surname), a payment of 165 euros, and your T-shirt size (S, M, L, XL, XXL). After your registration, you will receive a confirmation by email.

AWARDS

The Spartan Order Medal will be awarded to all participants who will successfully complete the Spartan March - Regular Category (25km march/weight 10kg). Special Category (35km march/weight 10kg) participants will get the Spartan Order Medal with Gold Sward Ribbon Clasp. This is included in the registration fee - together with Medal Certificate, T-Shirt, Patch and Stickers). Every year a participant successfully completes the march is marked by a Gold Number to be attached to the ribbon of the last medal awarded (after participating for the first time, the participant receives a medal. From the second time, they receive a medal with a gold number clasp attached to the ribbon).

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Please take care of the environment and only dispose your garbage in trash bin lined with a plastic bag, if there are no trash bin in the route, please put your garbage in your backpack or in your pocket.

FAQs

Q: What I have to do to register for the Special Category?
A: There is nothing you have to do now. On the march day, if you will complete 35km you will get Spartan Medal with Gold Sword device. So do not forget to share with us the activity details with the map on Adidas Runtastic Running App.

Q: Will the Spartan Medal be awarded?
A: Yes. Every successful finished participation will be awarded the SPARTAN MARCH Medal.

Q: Can I register a team?
A: Yes. Each member of your team must still log their march individually using the application and indicate what team they are part of indicating the name of the team when they send us the email with the activity details.

Q: Can my team be virtual (spread out across my country)?
A: Yes. The goal of this march is to march together, virtually or in person.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of people on my team?
A: No. We encourage all comrades and friends to participate.
